Our house has turned into a construction zone! Or is it destruction?
Winter is a good time for us to dive into house projects. The weather outside is not inviting for anything but picture taking (Marlys’ opinion). We’ve had wonderful snow and frosty days. Today it is snowing softly and heavily. But it isn’t supposed to last for long. And, after all, it is February and spring will be here soon.
Anyway, Larry started by painting the walls in the bedroom where he built a Murphy bed last November. So that is a sparkly new room. Then he moved to the main bathroom. He had installed a new toilet some time ago and realized that the floor and wall behind the toilet needed replacement and fixing. So – off came a few wall tiles and the tiles on the floor – even in the closet. He repaired the wall with tile and I was all set to order carpet for the floor. Everyone we talked to advised against carpet so Marlys changed her mind and we found some porcelain tiles. At the time we were discussing carpeting, Marlys mentioned the future kitchen remodeling (maybe next year?) and that we needed to put wood on the future dining area floor on the other side of the center island. So – Larry ripped out the carpet the next day. It turned out that he had been thinking the same thing! Now we have bare floor in the bathroom and in the center of the house!
As of yesterday, the sub-flooring cement board is screwed in and the tiles are laid out to give us an idea of how it will look. It is going to be beautiful. The wood is on order for the other project too.
Marlys has been Larry’s helper but she is also busy teaching a Bible study, AWANA and Sunday School. Then she got out the quilt top finished ages ago and finally decided how to incorporate our trips into the Around the World quilt. So that meant an embroidery project which is finished. Now she is hand quilting the whole quilt.
Larry’s creative juices are also flowing. He is working on making bent wood containers. Here is a picture of it.
January brought a birthday in our family. JP turned 16! It is hard to believe that time goes by so fast. We are very proud of this sophomore. He is now participating in Speech Meets with his high school team. He is ready to take his behind the wheel training to get his driver’s license too.
