Norway 3

Today has been very busy.

An agricultural fair was held at the local folk museum.

It is like a small county fair. Among the old houses which have been moved to the sight were stalls of farmers with produce, crafts people and food stalls. They had a short parade led by a horse and buggy followed by 5 or 6 tractors filled with kids. There were cows to be judged and programs on the stage. We listened to short speeches in Norwegian and then saw a modern dancer. Larry was surprised to see how many 'kid friendly' activities were there. They had little tractors, stilts, a log on chains, and even potatoes to be dug. One little cabin had bread making. The dough was in small balls so people could roll out flat bread and then cook it on a griddle. We even found a local 4 H club!

We met new friends who live in Fagernes at the festivities. Helen Bakke from Buffalo has cousins here. We had called Berit earlier in the week and arranged to meet. She and her sister led us to their home on the top of the mountain overlooking Fagernes. Wow! What a view they have. We had such a nice visit with them.

The evening activity was a Viking meal and Viking games.

A Viking ship sailed up to the hotel and gave rides. They had games set up on the lawn. We threw milk cans for distance. Larry threw a hatchet and hit the target!

We did group skis like our planks game. We were in the last group to go on the lake and it started raining. Not just misting but really raining. We came back drenched but laughing over our memorable Viking voyage.

Tomorrow is church in a stave church.
