The ride from Ketchikan to Wrangell was only 6 hours long. The ship was almost empty so saving seats was not a problem. We spent most of the time in the forward observation deck in comfortable chairs with panoramic views. However, the weather was nice, so we often strolled outside. The solarium deck at the top in the back was almost deserted, but there was no wind there and the scenery was wonderful. To think that this is part of the USA! Wow, what a bargain they made when they bought Alaska from Russia. We passed many islands with mountains and forests. The snow is melting. I don't know if it all melts or not. Perhaps there are a few glaciers along the way, but no one pointed them out to us. It is too early in the season for the naturalist to be on board.
We spied a submarine off in the distance. We could see the conning tower and part of the deck. Also, near one of the islands we could see the blowing of whales but it was too far away to see the whales and they didn't break the surface. Closer to the ship we saw a couple of otters floating on their backs and a couple of groups of dolphins gliding through the water.
We used the microwave to reheat the Chinese food we had purchased at the deli the night before leaving. It was more than enough for two meals. We ate in the cafeteria before dinner was served.
The best part of the ferry is meeting other travelers and comparing notes and getting ideas of what to see when we get off the ship. One couple has a self contained built-in van. They camped in the same location we did for two nights so far.
