We have just finished our third day of teaching this week. In the mornings we are up around 6 AM to prepare for the day and eat breakfast. We arrive at church by 8 AM for a short session with all the workers and teachers for prayer. The kids arrive and we can interact with them for half an hour. This is when we bring out our pictures from home.
Our classes in the morning are 40 minutes long. Larry is doing games. Marlys is doing music. Laura is doing cooking. Our 4 groups are about 15 to 25. Laura has two groups combined. They had 57 Cubbies and Sparkies aged kids today!!!
We are working with young people and adults who help move the kids from place to place and who help translate and give advice and support.
In the afternoons we have gone to a local high school to work with 50 or more jr & sr high students. Tuesday, we played games outside in the school commons area. It was very hot and humid. We drank a lot of water and survived very well. Today we were in air conditioned classrooms so it was much easier on us. We celebrated the 4th of July by teaching the kids to sing "It's a Grand Old Flag."
Tuesday evening we took a bus and train to visit Beth and Michael at their church and join in their first evening English class. We had fun with the 16 year olds and up. They really want to improve their English. Both LaCasse's were doing well. They also teach young children in the mornings.
Please continue to pray for our stamina. Our days start early and are really intense when we are teaching and interacting with students and staff.
Our hosts have been so gracious. Larry and I are living in a gated community about 10 minutes drive from the church. Laura is with a family about a 20 minute walk from the church.
Pastor Wu from our church has been a most gracious host. We have eaten three evening meals with him and his wife, Esther.
The highlight of our stay so far (for Larry and Marlys) was a dinner party at Pastor Wu's house on Monday night for our 47th Wedding anniversary.
